q. what is mopyfish?
a. mopyfish is a screen saver that was designed by global beach for hewlett packard. the idea behind it was to promote the "multiple original printout" capability of some hp printers, rather than the use of photocopy machines. see the global marketing article for more details.
q. what are mopyfish points? q. why do i need mopyfish points? q. how do i get mopyfish points?
a. collecting mopyfish points allows you to get additional items for the virtual fish tank. you don't really need them, but that's sort of the whole point of mopyfish. there are three ways to collect mopyfish points. the first way is to mopy, that is print more than one copy of a document on an hp printer, as hp intended. secondly, you can just take care of the fish and wait. points will accumulate daily, although rather slowly. the last way to get points would be to download my free mopy points. this is a simple hack that gives you all the points you'll ever need.
q. what are all of the files i can download? q. where can i download mopyfish, the free mopy points, etc.?
a. all of the mopy related files are located on the main page. they are as follows... mopyfish.exe - the main mopyfish installer from hp freemopy.exe - an archive containing a patch to get points written by me kissfish.exe - the aphrodisiac fish food installer from hp pointsnt.exe - a patch for windows nt users (see next question) mopyedit.zip - an archive containing files to edit the images used to create mopy
q. i use windows nt, do i need the pointsnt.exe file?
a. only if you intend to collect points as hp intended by printing multiple copies of documents. if you use the free mopy points you don't need it.
q. is there anything else besides the rock/plant, bubbles, and thermometer? q. i heard something about a diver and more fish, do you know where i can get them?
a. so far there is nothing else out there to add to mopyfish. i am working on making optional colors available though.
q. i'm going away for an extended period of time, will my fish die? q. my fish is dead, what happened?
a. mopyfish, just like a real fish must be fed. if left unattended for approximately 2 weeks, you'll return to find him/her floating at the top of the screen. unless you've become really attached to your fish, it's not a big deal. within mopyfish you'll find the options to bring the fish back to life. once that's taken care of, just use the free points again to get the additional items back as well.
q. i'm using windows nt and mopy exits when i move the mouse. how do i feed the fish?
a. in windows nt, the operating system maintains control of the screen saver and closes it forcefully when it detects keyboard or mouse activity. the only way to feed or play with mopy is to launch the program manually from the start menu. this doesn't appear to be a problem under windows 95/98/ME or windows 2000.
q. why does my aphrodisiac fish food keep disappearing?
a. it expires. although you may have plenty of points, it just goes away after a few days. all you should have to do is re-install it by running kissfish.exe again.
q. when i install the points they seem to work fine, but the next day i'm back to 39 points.
a. while my free mopy points seemed to work fine with mopy v1.9, there seems to be a bug in v1.9a that does strange things to the points when they're maxed out. to correct it, i reduced the free mopy points to 61680, from 65535, and released v1.4 of the free points. if you're experiencing this problem, download and install freemopy.v14.exe.
